TW in the studio July 2017.jpg

Potteries born Terry Woolliscroft enjoyed an entire career in the ceramics industry. He now paints in his studio in the Staffordshire Moorlands and has collaborated with the design of fine bone china mugs.

He paints in acrylics and oils, and having no traditional art schooling, is mainly self-taught. He enjoys painting landscapes, seascapes and still life and adapts his style according to the subject and his mood. He aims to capture an essence rather than a literal interpretation of his subjects and enjoys not just the colour but the textural quality of the paint. His paintings have no deep meaning; as he creates he senses when his painting begins to 'feel right'.

His paintings have found new homes here in the UK and as far afield as Japan, New Zealand, Arizona and Washington.

He draws inspiration from the rather special landscape of the north Staffordshire Potteries, and is influenced by Stoke artists Maurice Wade, Jack Clarkson, and Reginald G Haggar. He loves the work of Jiri Borsky, Rob Pointon and Ian Pearsall. More widely he loves the style and teaching of Hashim Akib and Marie Antoniou.

His work can be seen online, in his Etsy shop, and occasionally in local galleries.
